Characteristics
The
thalli are epiphytic on Turbinaria or on other larger algal species,
forming fine, thick, pinkish clumps; branches are calcified, branching
repeatedly dichotomous and divaricate which form acute angles; interdichotomal
segments are 64 - 107 µ in diameter and are 950-1293µ
long, 4 to 10 times longer than broad; the
apical segments are generally shorter and are 190-355µ in length;
fertile
specimens are characterized by the presence of conceptacles at the
distal end of the segments; conceptacles at the tips of theultimate
segment are generally slightly compressed, ovate in shape with a pair
of segments extending disgonaly from the sides of the conceptacle
resembling a pair of horns; conceptacles are open at their apical
ends by a distinct pore.
